Espadrille Shoes - 'In' or 'Out' of Fashion Summer 2026!
Every summer there are fashion articles discussing whether espadrilles are 'in' or 'out' of fashion.
It will come as no surprise that I am very much team - "Always in fashion!"
I am obviously biased, of course, it's my passion but before they became my small business life, espadrilles have been my summer 'go to' in my shoe cupboard for many years.
Sandals are lovely for beach holidays but always having to have my feet 'sandal ready' that's never been my thing. Trainers, comfort but often far too hot on the sunny days and don't get me started on removing sand from the insoles. Flip flops, perfect on holiday by the pool but again require feet maintance. SO...where does that leave us in the summer shoe world?!
Then comes the summer special ocassion shoe conundrum. I have never managed to find strappy sandals that didn't rub. High heels l truly adore but now in mid life l just can't. I can no longer balance comfortably. The balls of my feet on an unpadded leather sole and teatering on a 3 inch heel, alas no more. Those days are left behind, in my former City corporate life, in my 20's. (From breakfast meetings to after work drinks, all in sky scrapper high heels and never a wobble or a wince. The thought alone today makes my mid life toes curl!)
The search for the 'perfect' summer shoe led me to Espadrilles. The answer had always been there, in the bottom of my wardobe, brought out summer after summer. The trusty, reliable wedge summer shoe. A platform and a wedge sole giving me height and the comfort l need. Closed toes so no need to factor in a pedi every time the sun shines. Shoes with ribbons to add the'glam' when l need to dress up.
Ballet and loafer espadrilles perfect for those sandy beach strolls or to slip on when dashing out with the kids in the summer holidays. Lightweight compared to a trainer and colourful to match the sunny vibes.
Whether they're 'in' or 'out' this year, they will always be a reliable favourite, espadrilles will always be 'in fashion' in my wardobe.
